Position Title: Counselor Supervisor – CCF
Location: CVCSCD-CCF

Salary: $49751.00 - $51740.00

The Counselor Supervisor works under the guidance of the Residential Facility Director and works at least 40 hours per week.  The Counselor Supervisor is responsible for providing supervision and guidance to all counselors, counselor interns, and practicum students. Additionally, the Counselor Supervisor monitors compliance with CJAD standards, DSHS standards, and ensures fidelity of programming through observation and feedback of curriculum delivery by staff.

PRINCIPLE DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Instructs counselors in the accurate administration and utilization of various CCF approved instruments for the evaluation and assessment of CCF residents in the areas of: substance abuse, mental/emotional health issues and life skills.
  2. Works with the Assistant Facility Director and/or Facility Director in the development and implementation of programs relating to the rehabilitation and treatment of CCF residents.
  3. Coordinates the intake and orientation of new residents; assigns resident to counselor/counselor interns by determining resident and counselor suitability
  4. Assures accurate and appropriate documentation of the CCF residents as to their attendance, progress, cooperation and needs regarding the treatment program according to CJAD and departmental standards.
  5. Coordinates and chairs phase reviews and resident staffing, and provides updates to resident group lists, changes in class schedule, and yearly staffing dates
  6. Participates in disciplinary hearings/boardings for residents
  7. Attends job specific training session offered within and without the department to enhance job skills and knowledge as required by the department, CJAD, and applicable counseling licensing board.
  8. Provides weekly supervision to counselor interns and/or practicum students and maintains compliance with applicable licensure requirements including documentation of all supervision requirements; audits counselor files regularly
  9. Ensures coverage for all program classes/counselor caseloads in the absence of counselors; teach classes and carry a caseload as needed; maintain inventory for program; ensures on-call coverage and takes on-call rotation; oversees time off requests of counselors, counselor interns, and manages practicum student schedules
  10. Conducts performance appraisals for counselor and counselor interns
  11. Coordinates with the Residential Supervision Officer and the post release caseload Community Supervision Officer in the area of community resources for resident aftercare plans
  12. Assures that the CCF residents’ rights are protected and reports any violations to the CCF Assistant Director and/or Director.
  13. Adheres to licensure standards/rules and departmental standards governing confidentiality.
  14. May be required to transport residents in an emergency situation.
  15. Reports any and all personnel problems to Assistant Facility Director and/or Facility Director.
  16. Is knowledgeable of and uses universal precautions when dealing with residents.
  17. Conducts self in a professional manner with colleagues in the criminal justice system, with offenders, with victims, and with the public.
  18. Complies with CJAD Standards; Residential Code of Ethics; LCDC/ LPC Code of Ethics; Departmental policies and procedures.
  19. Performs other duties as required.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Minimum Bachelor’s degree from an institution of higher education accredited by an accrediting organization recognized by the Texas Higher Education Board in criminology, corrections, counseling, law, social work, family studies, psychology, sociology, or related field approved by Texas Department of State Health Services (DSHS) OR must have 5 years experience as a counselor with CSCD
  • Must possess certification as a Licensed Chemical Dependency Counselor, Licensed Professional Counselor or Intern, Licensed Master Social Worker, LMFT, or Licensed Psychologist with the Department of State Health Services and in good standing.
  • Two (2) years experience as a Qualified Credentialed Counselor (QCC) preferred
  • Must possess a solid understanding of the dynamics of the disease of addiction and various program types pertinent to the addictive personality
  • Prefer prior working experience in the Criminal Justice System.
  • Ability to meet the physical demands of the position which may include bending, pushing, pulling, lifting up to 50 pounds, standing and/or sitting for extended periods of time.
  • Ability to work in stressful situations and controlled environment
  • Ability to operate various office equipment and equipment needed to assess residents.
  • Ability to travel as required.
  • Ability and training to administer CPR and/or first aid in an emergency situation
  • Have the ability to utilize a personal computer.
  • Be able to work independently and efficiently.
  • Possess skills to communicate effectively (verbal ,written and listening)
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule to include evenings, weekends and holidays as scheduled according to on-call and family orientation rotation schedule.

  • Possess good judgment and sound decision making skills.
  • Ability to take direction and critique from supervisory and administrative personnel.
  • Ability to project, and maintain an image consistent with the aims, goals and philosophy of the Concho Valley Community Supervision and Corrections Department as well as an ability to follow policy and procedures.

  • Must possess a valid Texas Driver’s License (if employee is coming to this position from another state, this requirement must be met no later than thirty days following date of employment); Must have a good driving record
