Position Title: Counselor I or Intern Counselor* – CCF (Multiple Positions)
Location: CVCSCD-CCF/Bryant Blvd, Female Community Corrections Facility (CCF), RKR Mens Community Corrections Facility (CCF)

Salary: $40,514.00 - $45,692.00 annually* Commensurate with Experience

The Counselor I or Intern Counselor works under the guidance of the Counselor Supervisor and works at least 40 hours per week.  The Counselor I or Intern Counselor is responsible for providing comprehensive counseling services/classroom instruction and guidance to a resident caseload in the areas of substance abuse, emotional and mental health issues, and life skills within the scope of CCF programming, policies and procedures, and DSHS standards.

COUNSELOR I or INTERN COUNSELOR (CCF)

PRINCIPLE DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Utilizes various CCF approved instruments for the evaluation and assessment of CCF residents in the areas of: substance abuse, mental/emotional health issues and life skills.
  2. Works with the Program Director in the development and implementation of programs relating to the rehabilitation and treatment of CCF residents.
  3. Assists in the intake and orientation of new residents.
  4. Provides accurate and appropriate documentation of the CCF residents as to their attendance, progress, cooperation and needs regarding the treatment program.
  5. Provides daily counseling and assistance to the residents on an individual or group basis as the need arises.
  6. Attends and participates in resident staffing.
  7. Assures that the CCF residents’ rights are protected, and reports any violations to the CCF Assistant Director and/or Director.
  8. Adheres to licensure standards/rules governing confidentiality.
  9. Complies with the guidelines of the CCF, as well as CJAD standards/ethics, DSHS standards/ethics, license standards/ethics, and local, state, and federal laws.
  10. May be required to transport residents in an emergency situation.
  11. Reports any and all personnel problems to Program Director.
  12. Is knowledgeable of and uses universal precautions when dealing with residents.
  13. Conducts self in a professional manner with colleagues in the criminal justice system, with offenders, with victims, and with the public.
  14. Complies with CJAD Standards; Residential Code of Ethics; LCDC/ LPC Code of Ethics; Departmental policies and procedures.
  15. Performs other duties as required.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Equivalency of an associate’s degree from an institution of higher education accredited by an accrediting organization recognized by the Texas Higher Education Board in criminology, corrections, counseling, law, social work, psychology, sociology, ADAC or related field approved by the Texas Department of State Health Services (DSHS).
  • Must possess a solid understanding of the dynamics of the disease of addiction and various program types pertinent to the addictive personality
  • Prefer prior working experience in the Criminal Justice System.
  • Ability to meet the physical demands of the position which may include bending, pushing, pulling, lifting up to 50 pounds, standing and/or sitting for extended periods of time.
  • Ability to work in stressful situations
  • Ability to operate various office equipment and equipment needed to assess residents.
  • Ability to travel as required.
  • Ability and training to administer CPR and/or first aid in an emergency situation
  • Have the ability to utilize a personal computer.
  • Be able to work independently and efficiently.
  • Possess skills to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule to include evenings, weekends and holidays

Counselor I:

  • Must possess certification as a Certified Alcohol and Drug Abuse Counselor or be a Licensed Chemical Dependency Counselor, or Licensed Professional Counselor.

*Intern Counselor:

  • Must meet any and all time-framed required standards
  • Must be a Licensed Chemical Dependency Counselor-Intern or Licensed Professional Counselor – Intern in good standing with DSHS.

  • Possess good judgment and sound decision making skills.
  • Ability to project and maintain an image consistent with the aims, goals and philosophy of the Concho Valley Community Supervision and Corrections Department.
  • Ability to effectively and consistently communicate the mission and philosophy of the Department.
  • Ability to take direction and critique from supervisory and administrative personnel.
  • Ability to follow the philosophy, policies, procedures and directives of the Concho
  • Valley Community Supervision and Corrections Department.

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Must possess a valid Texas Driver’s License (if employee is coming to this position from another state, this requirement must be met no later than thirty days following date of employment); Must have a good driving record
  • Must have a telephone number at which they can be reached
  • Must have access to an automobile in good repair that can be used while on duty
  • Must maintain the appropriate automobile insurance
  • Must maintain appropriate dress and appearance as indicated in Concho Valley Community Supervision and Corrections Department policies

*NON-EXEMPT ANNUAL SALARY DETAILS:

Counselor:

Counselor I:  Entry pay $40,966.00 Grade 14 – Step 3. Upon successful certification and actively delivering UCCI program content pay will move to $42,692.00 Grade 14–Step 4.

*Intern Counselor: $37,514.00 Grade 14 – Step 1.
